INSANITY WORKOUT FREE TIPS
By Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson – INSANITY Cast Member
Here it is! What you have been waiting for INSANITY WORKOUT FREE TIPS! As a cast member in the Insanity workout DVDs, I had the privilege of working closely with Shaun T as he personally taught us how to DIG DEEPER while doing INSANITY.

I wanted to pass along these INSANITY WORKOUT FREE TIPS to you to ensure you get the maximum results you want!
1. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT
Before the first bead of sweat ever drops from you body, you must prepare your mind for your next 60 days. You need to decide right now that you are in this for the full two months. It doesn’t seem like a long time, but you would be shocked the number of people I talk to who quit in the first week.
Things to wrap your head around before starting INSANITY:
- You WILL work hard. Probably harder than you ever have before in your life.
- This is NOT a quick fix! You aren’t going to look like Shaun T by Day 3.
- The scale is not how to judge your progress! Performance & Energy will be your guides.
2. FORM IS KING
I have heard Shaun T say this over and over again: FORM OVER SPEED! Insanity is a rare workout. There isn’t a slow intro to let your body warm up. It comes out of the gate fast and furiously. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and adrenaline Shaun T gives off. You feel like you need to keep up with everyone in the DVD. Let me let you in on a little secret. Most of the people in that video had 60 days to train with Shaun T in preparation to shoot the DVDs. If that group of fitness professionals needed 60 days to be ready, don’t feel bad when you aren’t at their level on day one.
If you are really serious about performing at your max and avoiding injury then WATCH the workout before you do it. That way you can see the progressions and pay close attention to Shaun T’s form. Let’s face it; once the workout starts, we are so busy trying to keep up that exercise form is the first thing to be compromised. And when you compromise form- BAM – that is when you get injured and can’t workout at all. No one wants that, do they?
3. PACE YOURSELF
This could actually be labeled INSANITY FREE TIP 2a because it goes hand in hand with #2. Even though at times you may think otherwise, Shaun T cannot see you through your TV screen. He is not going to jump through the screen and yell at you if your pace is half of the Insanity cast members. In fact, on the many occasions I have had the privilege of training in person with Shaun T, I have seen him tell people to slow down. Your body will actually get BETTER RESULTS at a slower pace if you master perfect form!
When you go faster than you should, you leave yourself open for injuries, discouragement, frustration, and getting light headed. No one wants that!
4. FUEL YOUR BODY PROPERLY
Yes, there is a Nutrition Guide that comes with your Insanity DVDs! It amazes me how many people want to just jump into the workouts without paying any attention to how to eat during INSANITY.
You probably bought INSANITY because you wanted to look like the success stories on the infomercial or to have abs like Shaun T. Well let me let you in on a little secret: They didn’t get bodies like that eating whatever they wanted to.
Or even worse – many people are not eating enough! There was as much time and effort put into the nutrition guide as there was in creating the workouts.
It’s only 60 days! Don’t you want to give yourself the best chance to get the ultimate results from your investment?
Some people are surprised how much food they are asked to eat, but keep this in mind: You are training like an athlete, so you have to fuel your body like an athlete. INSANITY is not a program to be done without the proper fuel.
In addition to the food guide there are 2 things I use DAILY during my INSANITY Workouts:
Shakeology – It truly is the healthiest meal of the day. It also makes a fantastic pre-workout meal. I drink mine 1st thing in the morning, and do my INSANITY workout about an hour later.
Results and Recovery Formula – Originally designed to be used by people doing P90X, the results and recovery formula was my lifesaver while filming the DVDS. The orange bottles you see everyone drinking from in the Insanity Workout DVDs are filled with Results and Recovery Formula. Put 1 scoop in your water during your workout, and take 1 scoop post workout to replenish lost nutrients and prevent soreness.
5. FIND AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
The number 5 INSANITY WORKOUT FREE TIP probably should have been #1. Too many people try to jump into this routine by themselves without any support or encouragement. Doing INSANITY is a huge life changer. (It’s not like adding an evening walk around the block to your routine)
What happens when you hit the first roadblock? What do you do when you skip a day? What is the best way to find motivation on the days you don’t feel like working out? Are there options that can be substitutes for what is in the nutrition guide if I have allergies or food sensitivities?
Wouldn’t it be much easier to work with someone that knows the answers to all these questions? I have always attributed my amazing results to the fact that I have always had someone to be accountable to. They would pat me on the back or kick me in the butt – depending on what I needed that day. I have always been very thankful for the different ‘coaches’ I have had in my life.
Don’t make the mistake of trying to tackle INSANITY alone! If you are lacking support, encouragement, and an expert to help then I invite you to CLICK HERE TO CONTACT ME. I am happy to help!
Congratulations on taking a huge step to improve your health and fitness. Your life will be completely changed your life IF you follow these simple INSANITY WORKOUT FREE TIPS.

Love it Jimmy!!! Form over speed is for sure the most important. I embarked on my journey with INSANITY last year but quit when I was focusing on the scale. I thought I was going to die when I first started..lol But I pushed myself for about a month then gave up when the scale didn’t seem to want to budge. Knowing now that the scale should go in the garbage because this time around the scale moved a little but my body has changed so much and that’s all I’m focusing on now. Drinking my shakeology and doing my insane workouts and becoming a beachbody coach has changed my life. I’ll be seeing you tonight during my workout..lol
Thanks Jimmy for this incredible post, this will be used in the future by so many Insanity lovers as it really is what goes through people’s heads, I know it went through mine with my first round. This program is tough but if you can complete it you are golden!!
Thanks for the tips, Jimmy! I’m having a difficult time getting enough to eat, like you mentioned, but I”m gonna try harder! Is there a way I can get the nutrition with less preparation and cook time? I usually need something quick and easy.
If you ever see Ariel (the cutie blonde from the Insanity dvd and pictured above) tell her ‘hi’ for me. She has the best smile that keeps me motivated during the workout.

@45339d5e1c4bfe9128217ac4597251e6:disqus - to ensure I am getting all my nutrition in (esp with a demanding program like INSANITY) – I start EVERY day with my Shakeology. I also prep my meals in bulk a week in advance so I just grab and go. You can learn more about Shakeology here http://nelsongy.com/get-shakeology
this was really good, thanks for the tips!!
The website http://www.insanityworkoutreviewsu.com got me into insanity and tips like these make me do it well. Thanks for the tips!
Hey Jimmy, Great site and great tips! My wife and I are on day 19 of Insanity right now. Love how it’s making us feel and the meals are actually pretty easy to make :0) Keep it up man
@fe8fd5a6b94180def1b431a8868fcaf9:disqus thanks for stopping by! What has been the best result so far in your first 20 days?
Thanks for tips. I have worked out with weights for years just maintainence and started Insanity this week. Totally different workout. Hard work. Again thanks. Carlos.
Welcome to the INSANITY workout family @25bbb6a42a616ecd0414e30a8a49837d:disqus
Last two weeks of insanity and feel stronger, abdomen not as gross looking, but not looking much smaller and scale shows little change. Any tips that can help over the last two weeks? Need some motivation to keep going? I just got shakeology last week and already have been results and recovery almost the whole time. I don’t eat horrible as it is, but also have followed the meal plan a lot too.
Sounds like you are on track @2fef680c5f741e2dc33e7f84f69f33cf:disqus following the meal plan, drink your Shakeology, and giving it your all in each workout will produce results. Anytime you lack motivation – remember why it was you started in the first place! What is it that sparked you to take the first step- reconnect with that WHY! Also- feel free to stop by my Facebook page – always dishing out encouragement and motivation there http://facebook.com/CoachJimmy
I found your page by accident! i finished the last 30 minutes of my max interval circuit (did the other 20+ yesterday as i was feeling under the weather) going to push myself a bit to do my max plyo.. i already had an extra rest day… and i feel good today. im 34 mom of 4 children, and really stuck in the double digits… Although i have lost 14lbs since i started insanity~! It dropped fast.. but so far no more weightloss or major inches down.. feeling a bit discouraged and had to go on the internet for more support. I only have just pounds to get down.. then at least 50 more :/ Im staying in the 1500 calorie range and i dont want to drop it much more than this but i feel like im at a stand still.. on 1500 calories im eating sufficiently and not hungry.. and only drinking water.. occasionally the cup of coffee with stevia…(maybe 1 every few days)..anyways im feelin discouraged..
@dc26ac1c38e1062b5a5884ad084b87e1:disqus – anytime our bodies it a plateau then we know it is time to adjust something. How many calories does the INSANITY food guide say you should be eating? As crazy as it sounds I have hit a wall in the past during my 100 pound weight loss because I wasn’t eating enough
I am on recovery week. But I haven’t seen any results.
. Am i doing something wrong?
@13aa6b98ef520c0cacde8ea009f58857:disqus – how are you judging your results? Are you able to go longer with less breaks than when you started? Are your clothes fitting differently?
2nd week doing insanity. I am anxious to see results, am i rushing it or am i suppose to see results already?
@cryssie:disqus – everyone sees results at different pace. All I know is with my own results I needed the 4 Pillars of Success to see real results. Fitness + Nutrition +Support + Rewards = real Results – Which of those do you feel like you are lacking?
hello u r amazing.!pls 1 question I alredy finished insanity 60days..What do u recommend me to do?do it again insanity from the beginning or better just from the videos of the second month.!? Thks u are amazing.!(:
Thanks for the compliment @9150a43079c1853ca42b62ea07033b90:disqus – what are your goals going forward that will determine what you should do next. Some people do another round of INSANITY – other move on to Shaun’s INSANITY the Asylum. You can see more info on it here http://www.nelsongy.com/beachbody-bestselling-home-fitness-programs/insanity-asylum-base-kit
I am Matt. my email is m1a2t3t4h5e6w7g@gmail.com. I would love to get more tips and I will gladly post my results online.
Hey @google-265459734f45ca8da19801f72267a7a9:disqus – besides this article- what other tips would you like?
i’m halfway through month 2 and i am yet to see any results. i have a tight schedule so i only get to work out at 9p.m. I’m really careful with what i eat but i still dont see a change this makes me really sad and i hope the workout won’t be in vain
Hey @b531d30597d53673a8b00cea6009cf27:disqus – what do you mean by ‘no results’ — are you taking less breaks? is Your form better? Do you feel stronger? Are your clothes fitting differently? If the answer is no to all of those- then we need to vist your intensity and your nutrition for sure
Hey Jimmy – my husband and I are getting ready to do Insanity together, and I am a NOTORIOUS 1st week quitter.. I am also not in great shape and I’m nervous about whether or not this is the best program for someone who is not in top shape. Would love any advice you have! Thank you! Megan, megancraven11@gmail.com
Hey @9d059d722d0c163178b1e572e2ac0dbb:disqus – I will be honest INSANITY is an advanced program. That being said I have known people over 300 pounds that have chosen INSANITY bc they found a connection with it. Like I mentioned in the article – be willing to modify & don’t feel like you have to keep up with the DVD. At the end of the day real results will come from the 4 Pillars of Success. Fitness + Nutrition + Support + Rewards — I actually Coach private Facebook INSANITY Groups that help with all 4. If you and your husband would benefit from that, lemme know and I can send you more info.
Hey @9d059d722d0c163178b1e572e2ac0dbb:disqus – just checking in – how’s it going so far?
My name is Logan, email logan@blitzhobbies.com
Thanks @9a75faa7c9de11b897fe86620389048d:disqus – what can I help you with?
Hi Jimmy – I’d love to see the rest of the tips. I started my first “real day” today. I’ve done a few of the workouts before, peppered into other workouts, but have never done the program as a whole. I’m a runner, so it’s hard for me to say, “I won’t run for 60 days. I’ll just workout.” Your advice and tips would be great!
@6dbfc08b0c0ce11f8c3e64800e4887c0:disqus – check the box above- you can put your email there to get the rest of the tips! What if you committed to the program – and limited your running to 1-2 a week just temporarily? I have an INSANITY support group starting the Monday after Thanksgiving. Would a support group be helpful?
Hi! I’ve just finished up my 6th day of Insanity and I’m so proud of myself for not quitting. I read that you may have some support groups? I would love to see peoples results and encouragement! I sure need it! Also, what is this recommended calorie intake per day? Right now I’m at about 400-500 calorie meals (3 per day), as well as a few snacks (apples w/ peanut butter & oranges usually) here and there. I’m trying to moderate my carb intake. I’m a pretty broke college student, so it’s hard for me to afford to follow the nutrition guide completely. Basically I eat chicken and fish. Any other tips that might be useful?
@facebook-718158522:disqus – What I love about the INSANITY Workout Nutrition Guide is that there really aren’t any expensive meals in the plan. I was a struggling broke actor when I started my fitness journey, and I had to take an honest look at where my money was going. Starbucks, Happy Hour, Movies, Energy Drinks, Fast Food – so instead of thinking of ‘I Can’t Afford to Eat Healthy’ – I learned to reinvest the money I was wasting on things that weren’t getting me closer to my goal with things that would. #1 – was healthy foods on the meal plan #2 – is I actually SAVED money by replacing my lunch each day with a $4 Shakeology instead of a $5-8 subway sandwich. – If you would like more info on my next support group just send me a message at admin@nelsongy.com
Thanks Coach Jimmy
I’m on Day 52 of Insanity. I cannot believe how this program has transformed my body. I mean, no miracle has happened but my core and upper body look much stronger than before. Next I’ll try the Hip Hop Abs program. I’m blogging about my Insanity experience here : http://insaneaandfriends.blogspot.com/
Hi! My husband and I just ordered the insanity challenge and are planning on doing it together. I have a few questions. What should I stock up on food or drink wise before getting it? We were planning on doing the workouts right before bed so we can drink a glass of chocolate milk and pass out afterwards. Is that ok or is the morning still a better idea? Do you need special mats to do the workouts on?
